"We produced some of our best football, especially in the first half" - Pearce

Men's first team manager Daren Pearce gives his thoughts on Saturdays victory over Billingshurst

With Saturday's fixture being moved to Worthing FC rather than Billingshurst FC, this really suited us. On a perfect playing surface, we produced some of our best football in weeks, moving the ball well and creating a number of chances down our left. We took the lead when Kieren Jones fired home at the back post after James Henton's effort had been partially cleared. Jones scored again for our second, after good work from Isaac Davis and Henton combined to put him through on goal. He was brought down by the onrushing goalkeeper, and the referee pointed to the spot. Bradley Higgins-Pearce stepped up to take the resulting penalty. The keeper parried the initial kick, but Higgins-Pearce knocked in the rebound to put us 2-0 up at the break.

In the second half, Billingshurst came out strongly, and we had to defend well, which we did. When called into action, goalkeeper Syd Davies was up to the task, making a couple of really good saves to maintain our 2-0 lead. He was eventually beaten by a Billingshurst penalty after Jack North handled the ball on the line and received a red card for his actions.

Billingshurst then threw everything at us, but with some excellent blocking, defending, and good handling from Davies in goal, we recorded a creditable 2-1 away win.

Next week, we make the short trip along the A27 to face Arundel FC, kick-off 3 pm.
