Saturday's game saw us host Dammy Donnelly's Mile Oak side, who have been enjoying a good run of results lately, steadily climbing the table. This was always going to be a tough game for us, as his sides are always difficult to play against, being organised and hard-working.
We knew today would be no different, but if we kept a clean sheet, we would have a chance to create an opening during the game. This proved correct, as, nearing the end of the game, a lovely weighted through ball from James Henton sent young Isaac Davis through on goal, and his lovely lifted finish over the Mile Oak goalkeeper into the bottom corner gave us a 1-0 win and the full three points.
Having played well in the first half and created a few half-chances, but not quite getting the final touch to open the scoring, we went in level at the break. In the second half, Mile Oak stepped up and pressed us more, and we didn't play at the right tempo to create too much. With the game heading for a 0-0 draw, we managed to create that one clear chance, and we took it. That being said, in recent weeks we have played better and lost, so it was pleasing to do the "ugly stuff" first and win: defend well, work hard, limit the opposition to very few chances, and then take our chance when it came.
This result now gives us the opportunity to push on towards next week's home game against Reigate Priory, kick-off at 3 pm.
