Results don't always paint the full picture, and I believe this statement best describes our season. Although the result was disappointing, there were positives to take from the game. Ultimately, we need to finish the clear-cut opportunities we create and reduce the unnecessary mistakes. I counted five excellent chances for us to score – not including several half-chances – and Walford, Flower, Childs, and Burton were all close or unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.
While the visitors' first goal was a great finish, we conceded possession too easily. The second goal was an unfortunate, freak occurrence where a bobbled ball led to a backpass finding its way into our net. The final goal involved an element of luck, despite our belief that we should have had a strong free-kick opportunity, which was not awarded.
Significant progress has been made. Our very young squad is consistently developing and improving as the season progresses. We have found ourselves coming close to that elusive win in the league, and barring a few small setbacks, I truly believe success is just around the corner.
We welcome Oxford City to Seal Bay this Sunday, with kick-off at 2pm. It would be great to have as much support as possible at the game!
