Saturday saw us host Reigate Priory on a damp, cold February afternoon. The pitch, in fantastic condition thanks to the tireless work of our groundsman, Paul Lee, was a testament to his efforts throughout the week. With other matches being postponed, it highlighted just how much good work he does.
Despite last week's win, we were unable to capitalise, drawing 1-1. Playing with ten men for the final 25 minutes, the lads dug deep and defended resolutely as a team. Our goal came from Joe Boschi, who finished neatly after a well-worked build-up. We could have extended our lead, but Max Davies's strike was blocked on the line by a Reigate defender. Reigate, who posed a threat on the counter-attack, equalised just before half-time.
The second half mirrored the first until Harry Spicer was dismissed for a challenge on the Reigate forward. Moments earlier, the visitors arguably should have been reduced to ten men themselves after a reckless challenge on James Henton, who had already been booked.
Following the dismissal, the team showed great character, defending stoutly and limiting the away side to few chances. This is a real testament to their progress. A few months ago, we might have lost this game, but the group is developing steadily, and we are very much a team that works for each other. This was evident today.
Our only disappointment from Saturday's game is our lack of clinical finishing in front of goal. This is something we will be working hard on in training this week, aiming to add more ruthlessness to our game.
Next Saturday, we travel to Billingshurst FC in the league, kick-off at 3 pm.
