On Saturday, we travelled to Meadowbank Stadium to face Dorking Wanderers' B team, who, as always, are performing strongly in the league this season. Following Tuesday night's performance against Worthing United, the lads continued their good form, securing a hard-fought draw against a capable Wanderers side.
We began the match adapting to our hosts' style of play. Once the team adjusted, we became more influential. We took the lead after winning the ball back effectively in our own half. A well-executed break saw George Cody deliver a delightful pass to Kieren Jones, who finished past the home goalkeeper. This goal followed a good chance for Jones moments earlier, and several half-chances where our final pass let us down, despite having players in excellent scoring positions.
We anticipated Dorking's stronger response in the second half, and they indeed caused us problems from wide areas. It was from one such wide attack that they equalised, a cross and finish bringing the score to one-all. The game became more open, with chances at both ends. As time dwindled, Tom Blamire's headed effort from a corner forced the home goalkeeper into a scrambling save, ensuring the match ended in a draw.
